Katherine Cuevas Named Assistant Swim Coach at Seattle University

SEATTLE, Washington, July 9. KATHERINE Cuevas, a member of the 2002 Seattle University women's swim team that finished second at the NAIA Championships, has rejoined the Seattle University swim program as the squad's full-time assistant coach.

Cuevas, a part-time assistant coach for the past two seasons, was a swimmer for the Redhawks for three years, concentrating on the butterfly and backstroke disciplines. At the 2003 Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships, she notched the fourth-best 100 butterfly time and fifth-best 200 butterfly time in Seattle University women's swimming history.

A graduate of Snohomish High School, Cuevas received her bachelor's degree from Seattle University, double majoring in international studies and Spanish. After working over the past couple of years in the corporate world, Cuevas was offered this opportunity by head coach Craig Mallery, who recognized Cuevas's passion to return to the pool as a full-time coach.

"Kat embodies the mission of Seattle University and will be pivotal in the program's transition to NCAA Division I," Mallery said.
