European Tri-Meet Takes Place Between Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic

KIEV, Ukraine, June 26. OVER the weekend, the countries of Ukraine, Poland and the Czech Republic did battle for international bragging rights during a meet held in Kiev, Ukraine from June 23-24.

In the men's meet, the Ukraine picked up 13 triumphs, including two of three relays, while Poland won five titles. The Czech Republic took home one title.

The women's meet was much closer as the Ukraine won 10 titles and Poland touched first in eight events. The Czech Republic also only won a single title in the women's event.

Ukraine's Oleksandr Protsenko was the lone double titlist for the men's meet as he won the 50 back (26.91) and 100 back (56.83).

Other Ukrainian winners included Yuriy Yegoshyn (100 free – 50.24), Sergiy Fesenko (400 free – 3:56.47), Oleg Lisogor (50 breast – 28.47), Valeriy Dymo (100 breast – 1:01.77), Igor Borysik (200 breast – 2:16.54), Sergiy Breus (50 fly – 24.83), Artem Pron' (100 fly – 52.97), Denys Sylant'yev (200 fly – 1:58.01) and Roman Shudrenko (200 IM – 2:06.13).

Meanwhile, Kajetan Zaluski topped the 50 free for Poland as Mateusz Sawrymowicz (1500 free – 15:08.50), Jakub Jasinski (200 back – 2:04.80) and Pawel Korzenowski (400 IM – 4:26.28) each took home a title for Poland. Kvetoslav Svoboda gave the Czech Republic its only win with a 1:52.25 in the 200 free.

In relays, Ukraine's quartet of Oleksandr Tsepukh, Maksym Kushnaryov, Denys Syzonenko and Yegoshyn topped the 400 free in 3:22.49, while the contingent of Protsenko, Pron', Dymo and Yegoshyn won the 400 medley in 3:42.53. The Polish team of Lukas Gasior, Lukasz Giminski, Michal Rokicki and Korzenowski won the 800 free in 7:28.88.

The women's meet featured three triple winners as Poland's Otylia Jedrejczak won the 200 free (2:02.64), 400 free (4:21.29) and 200 fly (2:13.34), while her compatriot Beata Kaminska swept the 50-100-200 breaststroke events in 33.15, 1:10.66 and 2:31.29, respectively. Ukraine's Iryna Amshennikova turned in first-place times to sweep the backstroke events in the 50-100-200 events. She clocked a 29.24, 1:02.67 and 2:16.20, respectively.

Ukraine also sported a pair of double winners as Lyubov Korol won the 50 and 100 fly (27.86, 1:00.82) and Yana Klochkova took home the 200 and 400 IM events in 2:17.33 and 4:47.66.

Other individual winners in the women's meet included Poland's Katarzyna Baranowska (800 free – 8:57.64), Ukraine's Darya Stepanyuk (50 free – 26.60) and Czech Republic's Jana Klusackova (100 free – 57.15).

Ukraine stopped the clock first in the 400 free and 400 medley as the squads of Oxsana Serikova, Amshennikova, Klochkova and Stepanyuk took the 400 free in 3:49.85 and Ashennikova, Korol, Anna Khlistunova and Ganna Dzerkal' won the 400 medley in 4:12.91.

Poland's team of Jedrejczak, Baranowska, Agata Zwiejska and Paulina Barzycka won the 800 free relay in 8:24.93.
