Wichita-Trinity Academy Sets Relay Record, Captures Overall Team Crown at Kansas Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships

TOPEKA, Kansas, June 11. WICHITA-Trinity Academy picked up its fourth team crown by edging out O-P Saint Thomas Aquinas at the 2007 Kansas Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

Wichita-Trinity Academy took first with 205 total points. O-P Saint Thomas Aquinas settled for the second-place honors with 199.5 points while O-P Blue Valley-Northwest came in third (173).

Wichita-Trinity Academy had first-place finishes in the first and last events of the meet. The 200 medley relay contingent of Abigail Mahoney, Jamie Bruce, Rebecca Swank and Kelsey Allen combined talents for a first-place time of 1:49.80. Wichita-Trinity Academy's 400 freestyle relay foursome of Mahoney, Jennica Lee, Swank and Bruce eclipsed the former state standard of 3:34.94 set last year by O-P Blue Valley North. Mahoney, Lee, Swank and Bruce clocked a time of 3:34.62.

Bruce cruised to two gold-medal finishes, winning the 200 IM (2:03.19) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.81). Derby's Lisa Lunkenheimer placed first in both of her events as well. Lunkenheimer took first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.04) and the 100 butterfly (56.00). Meredith Matthies of Wichita-Kapaun Mt. Carmel eked out wins in both sprint events. She clocked a 24.26 in her 50 freestyle and a 52.51 in her 100 freestyle.

Lauren Wismer of Stilwell-Blue Valley outperformed the diving competition with a first-place score of 468.50. Logan Kline of Shawnee Mission-East claimed the silver with a 432.25 score while Erin Schuberth took third (410.40).
