Sprague, Rouault Win Distance Events as Charlotte UltraSwim Opens

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, June 7. KICKING off the Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center, Whitney Sprague and Sebastien Rouault collected distance-freestyle event victories Thursday night. The four-day competition will run through Sunday, with the next three days featuring full schedules.

Representing the North Carolina Aquatic Club, Sprague prevailed in the women's 800 freestyle in 8:45.62, a time that bettered the 8:49.55 of Alicia Aemisegger (Germantown Academy). Claire Maust of the Athens Bulldogs was third in 8:50.22. Having just concluded her freshman year at Princeton University, Aemisegger is gearing up for the World University Games.

A Frenchman swimming for the Athens Bulldogs, Rouault cruised in the 1500 freestyle, winning in 15:55.98. Rouault was unchallenged and placed comfortably ahead of Jeff Smith from Auburn (16:13.07) and Samuel Wollner (16:14.96.)
