Three Canadians Named to International Positions

OTTAWA, Ontario, May 26. ACCORDING to a release from Swimming Canada, several individuals from the nation have been named to important roles within international swimming. The Aquatic Federation of Canada indicated that Eldon Godfrey, Margo Mountjoy and Bill Shaw will have an impact on the future of the sport.

Godfrey and Shaw have been named to positions within the Amateur Swimming Union of the Americas, which governs swimming in North, Central and South America. Godfrey will begin as president of the organization in July, serving a four-year term. As for Shaw, he will be member of the Executive Committee, also for a four-year term. Mountjoy, meanwhile, has been nominated by the AFC to serve as the ASUA representative to FINA, the world governing body of swimming.

"We are very pleased to have three strong leaders representing the Canadian Aquatics community on the international stage," said Linda Cuthbert, AFC President. "These volunteers are well-respected in the international arena for their experience, expertise and commitment to the aquatic sports. They are passionate about all the aquatic sports and dedicated to helping the sports grow internationally and domestically in a way that is athlete-centered, progressive and professional."
