Boudia/Finchum, Foster/Krug Claim Synchro Titles at Spring Nationals

BOYDS, Maryland, April 21. WORLD Championships bronze medalists David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Thomas Finchum (Indianapolis) added to their list of awards by winning the men's 10-meter synchronized title at the Speedo USA Diving Spring National Championships on Friday night. In the evening's other final, Nancilea Foster (Spring, Texas) and Cassidy Krug (Coraopolis, Pa.) captured the women's 3-meter synchro title.

Finchum and Boudia, who earlier in the week were invited to tour the U.S. Capitol Building and meet Senator Richard Lugar, R-Ind., in recognition of their World Championships medal, won the title with 442.98 points. Matt Bricker (Winter Park, Fla.) and Nick McCrory (Chapel Hill, N.C.) made their debut as a synchro team and finished second with 386.07 points. Daniel Mazzaferro (Cheshire, Conn.) and JJ Kinzbach (Montgomery, Texas), also a new synchro team, scored 362.61 points for bronze.

"I'm pleased with our performance, but we can always do better. We didn't hit everything as well as we could have, but I'm still happy we won," Finchum said.

Krug and Foster were third in the prelims but came out strong in the finals to score 306.75 points en route to the gold medal. Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill.) and Amanda Miller (Centreville, Va.) scored 298.80 points for the silver, and Mary Yarrison (Springfield, Va.) and Abby Johnston (Columbus, Ohio) took third with 290.10 points.

"We're excited. This is a great start towards building for the future. We're looking forward spending more time training together this summer," Foster said.

Friday's competition also included semifinals for men's 10-meter and women's 3-meter.

Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) led the women's 3-meter field with 315.55 points, and Loukas was second at 301.95. Krug finished third with 286.60, and Allison Brennan (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored 275.00 points for fourth. Ashley Rubenstein (Columbia, Mo.) took fifth at 264.70.
