NCSA Junior Nationals Underway

ORLANDO, Florida, March 20. THE National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) Junior National Championships opened a five-day run in Orlando, Fla., with men's and women's competition in the 1000 freestyle and 200 medley relay.

Women's 1000 Freestyle
14-year-old Emily Kelly of Long Island Aquatics claimed the distance freestyle event in 9:45.83. That time fell just more than half-a-second off the record of 9:45.27 set by Swim Atlanta's Keegan Walkley in 1997.

Amanda Smith of the Mason Manta Rays took second in 9:48.63, while Katura Harvey of Rockville Montgomery finished third in 9:49.88.

Women's 200 Medley Relay
Lake Country's team (relay participants were not reported) lowered its own 2005 meet record by .02 with a 1:43.34 for the win. Meanwhile, Raleigh Swimming (1:44.89) and Rockville Montgomery (1:45.03) finished second and third, respectively.

Men's 1000 Freestyle
16-year-old Rikiya Yano of Aquazot came from behind in the final 50 to overtake 17-year-old Brent Hitchcock of the Dayton Raiders, 9:08.00 to 9:08.09, for the victory.

Shane Lichtenberg of the Oakland Live Y'ers placed third in 9:10.02.

Men's 200 Medley Relay
The team of Daniel Simco (23.89), Tristan Hastings (27.24), Anthony Simco (22.14) and Adam Powell (20.37) of the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester won the race in 1:33.64.

Tampa Bay Aquatics' foursome of Jason Khoury (24.88), Matt Stumpf (26.32), Tommy Wyher (21.52) and Ryan Stumpf (21.34) took second in 1:34.06, while St. Charles Swimming's quartet of Matt Baumann (24.88), Doug Brooks (26.80), Jimmy Brooks (22.95) and Jake Grosser (19.78) placed third in 1:34.41.
