Auburn Swimmers Set Two Automatic Qualifying Marks At James E. Martin Qualifier

AUBURN, Alabama, February 24. SEVERAL Auburn men's and women's swimmers met or improved on qualifying marks for the NCAA Championships Saturday at the James E. Martin Qualifier, including two swimmers, Jon Roberts and Alana Dillette, who automatically qualified.

Roberts had an automatic qualifying time in the men's 100 breast, racing to a time of 53.24 seconds, while James Wike's time of 54.44 gave him a provisional mark. Roberts also improved his 200 breast provisional mark with a time of 1:58.69.

Dillette met the `A' cut in the women's 100 back with a time 54.18. She also had a `B' cut time in the 100 free, touching in 50.49 during the finals.

In the 500 free, Will Dove improved his provisional time of 4:21.53, while Pascal Wollach had his first `B' cut time in that event with a mark of 4:23.62. Dove also improved his `B' cut time in the 1650 free, clocking a 15:16.41.

Ava Ohlgren (22.92) and Julie Stupp (23.35) both had `B' cut time in the women's 50 free, while Steve Scheren (20.06) had a provisional mark in the men's 50 free.

In the men's 100 free, Scheren improved his `B' cut time to 43.77, while Joey Schneider met the provisional cut with a time of 44.07.

Kristen Hastrup shaved more than two seconds off her provisional time in the women's 200 free, posting a time of 1:48.07, while in the men's 200 free, Jakob Andkjaer had a provisional time of 1:36.53 and Alexei Puninski met the `B' cut standard with a mark of 1:37.56.

Emile Ewing had a pair of `B' cut times in the 100 back (55.25) and the 200 back (1:57.95). Melissa Marik met the `B' cut standard in the women's 50 free with a time of 22.90, and in the women's 200 breast, Abby MacGregor improved her provisional time to 2:14.71.

In the men's 100 fly, Luke Weniger improved his `B' cut time to 47.30 and Matt Targett improved his to 47.41, while Mark Johnson made the cut for the first time with a mark of 48.00.

Johnson also met the provisional qualifying time in the 400 IM with a time of 3:52.33. Andrew Callahan had a top time in that event of 3:50.47 in the prelims but did not improve his previous best of 3:50.08.

Cesar Cielo posted a `B' cut time in the men's 100 back with a mark of 48.49, and Jordan Anderson met the `B' cut mark in the men's 200 fly with a time of 1:46.37 in the finals.

In the men's 200 IM, Tyler McGill swam a time of 1:48.39 in the finals to meet the provisional qualifying mark, while Logan Madson had a time of 1:48.50 in the prelims that also met the mark.
