Three-Peat for WKU’s Men and Back-to-Back for FAU’s Women at Sun Belt Champs

NASHVILLE, Tennessee, February 17. WESTERN Kentucky University's men's team continued its dominance in the Sun Belt Conference swimming and diving championships completing a three peat. WKU has won all three SBC swimming and diving titles since 2005 this year taking the crown utilizing their depth. The Hilltoppers scored 734 points and outlasted second place finisher Denver (665 points) and third place Missouri State.

On the women's side Florida Atlantic picked up back-to-back titles after winning last year's championships. FAU led from day one of the meet and never looked back, scoring 901.5 points. WKU's women finished in second place with 767.5 points and Denver's women third with 581 points to round out the top three.

Saturday night's finals began in sweeping fashion for the Owls women's 1650 freestyle as Lauren Shue, Brittany Fabry and Jenny Harms took home spots one through three.

Shue's time of 16:29.45 broke her own Sun Belt Conference record (16:44.07) and was also a NCAA "B" standard time.

Kelsey Totura of Denver secured an NCAA "A" time winning the 200 backstroke with a new SBC record time of 1:57.32. Francis Gilmore of WKU picked up his second backstroke crown setting a new SBC record in the process swimming 1:47.32.

FAU's Bianca Murphy and Eren Onurlu took home the gold in the women's and men's 100 free. Murphy swam 51.88 and Onurlu 44.72. Onurlu's win was his second of the 2007 SBC Championships.

Ellie Weberg of FAU picked up her second NCAA "A" time, winning the 200 breaststroke and setting his second SBC record with a time of 2:12.93.

Seth Johnson of Missouri State won the men's 200 breast (2:02.61) setting a SBC Championship record.

In the last individual event of the evening, FAU's Geni Burts won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.53. Southern Illinois University's Antonio Santoro was crowned champion for a second time, winning the men's 200 butterfly (1:47.34). His time was also an NCAA "B" cut time and a new SBC record.
