Ball State Sweeps IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, January 31. THE Ball State University men's and women's swimming & diving team competed at the IUPUI Natatorium on Wednesday night. They men came in first place with a score of 137 and the women took top honors with a 145.

The foursome of Erika Paul, Lauren Harger, Emily Hurst and Chelsea Anderson clocked in a 1:51.27 to win the 200 medley relay at the start of the meet. The men also won their event with a time of 1:39.19. The quartet was made up of Adam Konopka, Ryan Franklin, Ian McIntosh and Chris Steindorff.

Kyle Hembree swam his way to a first place finish in the 1000 free after earning a 9:59.20 final.

The winners in the 200 free were Anderson (1:59.39) for the women and Ben Karwoski (1:47.23) for the men. Teammates Brittany Sayler and Jacob Morris both finished at the top of the list in the 50 free. Sayler clocked in a 24.95 for the event and Morris earned a 22.04 final.

Michelle Braden was first in the 200 IM (2:12.91). Konopka also won the event with a time of 2:01.77.

Stephanie Paul dove her way into first with a 289.65 final in the 1-meter dive. Zach Whitaker took second after a 316.35 final. Paul also took first in the 3-meter dive after scoring a 328.95.

Kelly Johnson won the 100 fly (59.64) and Eric Gellinger earned the top honor in that event for the men (54.25).

Other first place finishers on the night were Sarah Kehe in the 100 free (54.13) and Jacob Morris in the 100 free (48.93). Katie Jasmon and Brett Pettit won the 100 back. Brittany Sayler collected a first place finish in the 500 free (5:12.88) along with teammate Ben Karwoski (4:44.15). Harger and Franklin won the 100 breast.

Both teams closed out the night with wins in the 200 free relay.
