Pepperdine Split Meets with San Diego State, Cal Poly

MALIBU, California, January 28. THE Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team competed in its final dual meet of the season as it hosted San Diego State and Cal Poly on a rain-drenched Saturday afternoon. The Waves easily defeated Cal Poly 92-48, but came up short against the Aztecs, falling 86-54.

With today's split, the Waves finished 2-2 in dual meets this season.

The Pepperdine 200 medley relay team of Alison McLeod, Danielle Kimmel, Amy Nightingale and Haley Wilson placed first against both opponents with a 1:47.08. Swimming a 3:38.19, the 400 free relay team of Loriann Mark, Kady Skora, Brianna Blanchard and McLeod placed first against Cal Poly and second against San Diego State.

Haley Wilson's best race of the day was the 200 IM taking the top spot with a 2:11.64. Wilson placed third against the Aztecs in the 200 free swimming a 1:56.14, while that time earned her the top spot against the Mustangs. Wilson also won the 100 free against Cal Poly with a 52.83 and placed second after San Diego State.

Alison McLeod captured the 100 back with a 58.41, while Lauren Meagher earned third place against both opponents with her 1:01.90. McLeod also captured the 100 fly with a 58.13. Amy Nightingale and Meagher helped the Waves sweep the 100 fly against Cal Poly taking second and third, respectively.

Danielle Kimmel won the 100 breast, swimming a 1:05.99 for the fourth place all-time record. The freshman now owns all Top 5 times for the event. With a 1:09.94, Sara Kallman placed second against Cal Poly and third against San Diego State. Kimmel took second behind the Aztecs in the 50 free (25.58) and the 200 breast (2:24.56), but won against Cal Poly in the 200 breast by more than 10 seconds.

Brianna Blanchard led the Waves in the 1000 free, placing third against San Diego State and second against Cal Poly with her 10:59.44. Loriann Mark was right behind with a 10:59.48. Blanchard also scored in the 500 free with a 5:18.86, placing third against the Aztecs and second against the Mustangs.

In the 200 fly, Nightingale led the Waves with a 2:14.85, placing third against the Aztecs and second against Cal Poly, while Michelle Fadley's 2:18.83 gave her third place behind her teammate. Nightingale also led the Waves in the 200 back placing second against both opponents with a 2:13.37.

In diving, the Waves swept the one-meter dive against Cal Poly with Lindsay Adarme leading all divers with 237.5 points. Amanda Pond took second with 208.8, while Devyn Schumacher came in third with 198.75 points. Adarme took second in the three-meter dive against the Aztecs with 237.3 points, but took the top spot when competing against Cal Poly. Sarah Towers and Pond captured second and third place topping Cal Poly in the event.

The Waves are back in action at the Pacific Coast Swimming Conference Championships that run from Feb. 7-10 in Long Beach, Calif.
