CAL WINS 400 FREESTYLE RELAY

The 400 free relay belonged to California from start to finish, with the team of Matthew Macedo, Anthony Ervin, Bart Kizierowski and Lars Merseburg winning in a U.S. Open record of 3:11.25.
The Texas team of Nate Dusing, Jamie Rauch, Matt Ulrickson and Bryan Jones was second in 3:12.56, pulling ahead of Arizona half way through thanks to 100 back champion Ulrickson’s leg. Arizona’s team of Roland Schoeman, Coley Stickels, Jay Schryver and Ryk Neethling was third in 3:13.18. Stanford’s team of Anthony Robinson, Adam Messner, Glenn Counts and John Waters was fourth in 3:14.08. Messner was just coming off a win in the 200 fly.
The Auburn team of Matthew Busbee, Greg Busse, Oswaldo Quevedo and Aaron Ciarla was fifth in 3:15.31, and Minnesota’s team of Ricardo Dornelas, Alex Massura, Max von Bodungen and Allen Ong was sixth in 3:15.93.
Southern Cal’s team of Phil Demers, Jeff Lee, Bret Awbrey and Gabe Woodward was seventh in 3:16.81, and Hawaii’s team of David Jenkins, Luis Rojas, Nick Folker and Ramie Darling was eighth in 3:17.34.
