Washington College Defeats Goucher College, 121-79

TOWSON, Maryland, January 17. VISITING Washington College topped host Goucher College, 121-79, in non-conference women's swimming action tonight in Towson, MD. The Shorewomen (7-2) got two individual first-place finishes each from seniors Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel) and Caitlin Auger (McLean,VA/McLean) and entered the final two events of the meet as exhibitions only.

Jones won the 1000 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 11:23.94 and the 500 freestyle in 5:39.40. Auger was first in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.60
and the 100 freestyle in 58.34.

Freshman Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) became the
Shorewomen's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in the 200 butterfly by winning
the event in 2:15.16. Freshman Liz Thomas (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep) won
the 50 freestyle in 26.82, junior Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter &
Paul) was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:19.68, and senior Liz
Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) captured the 100 backstroke in 1:02.05.

Sophomore Brittany Siburt (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) placed second in
the 1000 freestyle in 11:42.74, senior Sidra Carman (Silver Spring,
MD/Albert Einstein) was second in the 50 freestyle in 27.30, and senior
Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) finished second in the 200
butterfly in 2:15.74. Sophomore Kimber Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga)
was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.56, while sophomore Cara Choplin
(West Deptford, NJ/Bishop Eustace) was second in the 500 freestyle in
5:46.87.

Sophomore Andrea Cole (Felton, DE/Caesar Rodney) recorded the fastest time
in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.63) as an exhibition. Washington also turned
in the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay as an exhibition as Morse,
Auger, senior Kimmy Kraeer (Denton, MD/North Caroline), and freshman
Cailin Eisele (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) swam a
1:45.88.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial
Conference meet at Dickinson.
