UI-Chicago Splits with UW-Green Bay

CHICAGO, Illinois, January 13. DESPITE senior sprint-freestyler Blake Booher winning two events and anchoring a victorious relay for the UIC men's swimming and diving team, the Flames fell to UW-Green Bay, 130-113, at the UIC Natatorium on Saturday, while the women won, 168-75.

In the Flames' first meet since December 17th, Booher secured a first-place time of :20.56 in his specialty, the 50-yard freestyle, before winning the 100 free in convincing fashion with a :46.64.

Booher would also team with Dan Hare, Brenden Dougherty and Cameron Seebeck to cap UIC's showing with a winning 400 free relay time of 3:06.98.

Hare also won the 200 IM, edging out teammate Mike Conroy with a time of 1:59.24.

Jason Dews picked up a 200 butterfly victory, winning the event in 1:55.50.

Mark Pappalardo paced UIC on the boards, winning the one-meter event with a tally of 319.20. Pappalardo also placed a close second on the three-meter board, posting a 302.60 that came up short of first by just 1.35 points.

In a tight back-and-forth dual meet, the Flames fell just short of the win. UW-Green Bay eventually scored a 130-113 victory in the team standings.

Junior Andrea Giczewski broke a school record in the 100-yard freestyle with a victorious time of :52.34 to pace the UIC women's swimming and diving team against UW-Green Bay.

Giczewski surpassed teammate Kelly Hyatt's previous school-best mark of :52.49.

Hyatt would make her mark on Saturday's meet as well, winning the 50-yard freestyle in :24.41.

Sarah Economides led the Flames' diving corps with a winning score of 230.90 on the three-meter board.

The Flames lost the dual meet by a score of 168-75.

UIC returns to action next weekend at the Bill Ritter Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis.
