Eastern Michigan Prevails Over IUPUI

YPSILANTI, Michigan, January 13. THE Eastern Michigan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated IUPUI Friday night here at Jones Natatorium, Jan. 12. The men's team defeated the Jaguars by a score of 139-80, while the women won 132-100.

On the men's side, EMU claimed eight of the first nine events to put the meet out of reach. Seven different swimmers claimed the first seven individual races for the Eagles as Jeff Montague (100 free), Steven Bowling (200 free), Andy Gantzer (50 free), Dan Kish (200 IM), Dan Wohl (100 butterfly), Jason Piercey (1000 freestyle) and Jason Olesinski (100 back) all finished first in their event. The 200 medley relay team of Olesinski, Brad Grieshop, Chris Meyers and Derrick Roe also clocked in with the top time.

For the women, the Eagles won nine of the first 10 events to take the meet. Catherine Lee Ha paced EMU with first place finishes in the 50 free and 100 backstroke. The Green and White also had top times by Emily Mekesa (100 free), Jessica Wohl (200 IM), Sarah Chranowski (one-meter diving), Madeleine Pilchard (100 butterfly), Sheila Carson (1000 free) and Alissa Ricard (500 free). The 200 medley relay team of Steph Cholyk, Lindsay Hayden, Summer Wood and Pilchard also finished first.

Both the men's and women's squads will be in action again Saturday, Jan. 13, for a Mid-American Conference meet with Ball State at 1 p.m. in the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
