No. 2 Stanford Men Edge Out No. 5 Arizona

TUCSON, Arizona, January 12. LED by double victories by Shaun Phillips (500 free, 1000 free), Nate Cass (200 breast, 200 fly) and Dwight Dumais (1-meter, 3-meter diving), the second-ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving team posted a 129-112 victory over fifth-ranked Arizona in the Pac-10 season opener for the Cardinal on Friday afternoon at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.

Phillips, a senior, won the 500 free in a time of 4:30.00 and later posted a season-best winning time of 9:24.36 in the 1000 free. Cass, a sophomore, captured first place honors in the 200 breast in a time of 2:02.81, and 1:51.91 in the 200 fly. Dumais, a sophomore, won 1-meter diving with 332.50 points and 3-meter diving with 348.40 points.

Hongzhe Sun recorded Stanford's seventh victory of the day with a first place finish in the 200 back (1:46.93).

Stanford, 2-0 in dual meets this year, travels to Arizona State on Saturday (Noon).
