FAU Women Win, Men Fall

BOCA RATON, Florida, January 6. ON Saturday morning, the Florida Atlantic University swimming and diving teams hosted their second meet of the week. The men's team fell to the University of Pennsylvania while the women defeated Illinois State, Nebraska and the University of Pennsylvania in a tri-dual meet. Jonathon Pinto, Nick McMahon, Geni Burts and Ellie Weberg each won two individual events.

Both squads opened the meet with wins in the 200-yard medley relay before Burts won the 200 free (1:53.43) and 400 IM (4:27.17). Weberg won her specialty events of the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:02.70 and 2:16.46, respectively.

Other winners were Shawn Griffith in the 200 fly (2:06.17), Bianca Murphy in the 100 free (42.58), Jenny Harms in the 500 free (5:06.24), Jennifer Forcht won the 100 fly (58.45) and Lauren Harvath to the 3-meter diving event with a score of 245.35.

The men's team won nine events. Pinto won both backstroke events. In the 100 back he posted a time of 53.48 and followed with a 1:55.98 in the 200 back. Other winners were Kyle DeCicco in the 100 breast (59.14), Eren Onurlu in the 50 free (21.35), Christian Baker in the 200 breast (2:13.29), Greg Corning in the 400 IM and Nick McMahon won both the 1-meter (245.35) and 3-meter (284.20) diving events. He narrowly edged out Billy Beuregrad for first on the 3-meter board by less than three-tenths of a point.

The teams will travel to Georgia Tech next Saturday to take on the Yellow Jackets in a dual meet at noon.
