SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Weekly Channel Recap: December 9, 2006

PHOENIX, Arizona, December 9. THIS past week kept the swimming community hopping with plenty of international meet action. SwimmingWorldMagazine.com covered Laure Manaudou lighting up the French and European Short Course Championships, while keeping tabs on Tae Hwan Park's outstanding exploits at the Asian Games.

We also posted results from the International Paralympic Committee Swimming Championships held in Durban, South Africa, while also reporting on the Telstra Australian Swimming Championships.

In other action, Kate Ziegler tracked down another Janet Evans' American record, this time in the 1650-yard freestyle, while Dara Torres continued her comeback in fine form. Additionally, Amanda Weir went pro to end her collegiate career, while plenty of other prep stars signed on the line to being their higher education careers.

Swimming World Radio also caught up with Michael Phelps shortly after the U.S. Open to see about his plans for the future.

Both John Lohn and Tito Morales wrote premium articles for the site. Lohn explored the Australian men's search for talent with the loss of Ian Thorpe as well as the fast fall of Japan's Kosuke Kitajima after reaching the pinnacle of the sport. Morales wrote about Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year, which completely left out swimmers from the conversation.

Meanwhile, Duke senior Jay Ashenfelter joined the "A Day in the Life" series as the first male contributor.
