Arestis, St. Andrew Earn GLIAC Weekly Kudos

BAY CITY, Michigan, December 6. THE Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honored the University of Indianapolis' Alex Arestis and Wayne State's Ashley St. Andrew with its weekly awards.

Arestis won two events and posted three NCAA Championship qualifying times at the Ashland Invitational last weekend. His 100-yard freestyle win came in a "B"-cut time of 45.81. He also earned an "A"'-cut on Saturday with a 1:40.08 clocking in his 200-yard freestyle win, part of a first-second-third finish for UIndy. He would finish the successful weekend by earning a third NCAA qualifying time, a 21.49 in the 50-yard freestyle on Sunday.

St. Andrew earned two NCAA "A" qualifying times and helped set five school records for Wayne State this past weekend at the Eastern Michigan Invitational in the 1,650-yard freestyle, St. Andrew shattered the WSU mark previously held by Melissa Duff (17:33.91) with her fourth-place time of 17:14.63. She also set a school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:22.19). Her 500-yard freestyle time of 5:02.44 was good for an "A" cut, a school record, and sixth place at the meet. St. Andrew also swam the third leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:34.68) and 800-yard freestyle relay (7:46.92), both of which set school records.
