Visitation, Stillwater Area Win Class High School Titles In Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, November 29. VISITATION High (Class A) and Stillwater Area High (Class AA) claimed state high school titles at the Minnesota State High School League Girls Championships on Nov. 20-22.

Class A

Visitation High took home the Class A state title with 231 points, while Breck School placed second with 182 points. The Blake School took third with 168 points, while Hill-Murray School finished fourth with 131.5 points and Mankato West High wound up fifth with 121 points.

Breck School junior Sammi Husband broke the Class A record in the 200 IM with a 2:08.33 to win the event. That time nipped the 2:08.74 set by Hutchinson's Lindsay Wagner in 2004. Husband went on to double up with a win in the 100 fly (57.37).

In diving, Orono High junior Jessica Stanchfield won the one-meter crown with 391.25 points.

Class AA

Stillwater Area High grabbed the Class AA state title with 290 points to beat out Burnsville High's second-place total of 238 points. Minnetonka High picked up third with 167 points, while Wayzata High (166) and Maple Grove High (162.5) rounded out the top five.

White Bear Lake High senior Maggie Meyer blitzed the pool with an all-time state record of 55.30 in the 100 backstroke. That performance picked off the 55.37 set by Eagan's Roxane Akradi on Nov. 15, 2003. Meyer also doubled with a 50.34 to win the 100 free.

Burnsville High senior Kerry Kraemer turned in the other title deuce with wins in the 200 IM (2:04.09) and the 100 breast (1:02.63).

Andover High senior Brittany Jumer triumphed in the one-meter springboard event with 420.70 points.
