Wayne State Downs Findlay

DETROIT, Michigan, November 17. IN its first home meet of the season, the Wayne State women's swimming team turned in a dominant 109-63 win over the University of Findlay on Friday evening at the Matthaei Aquatic Center. The men defeated Findlay, 96-80.

In women's action, the Warriors clinched the victory quickly, as a slim Oiler roster put the home team at a distinct advantage from the start.

Erika Barczak eclipsed the NCAA qualifying standards for both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions, posting scores of 249.15 and 261.38, respectively.

Freshman Elaina Hogle shattered the Wayne State record in the 400 IM by nearly seven seconds with a time of 4:33.89, making an NCAA "B" cut and narrowly missing an "A" cut by .80 seconds.

Haintso Rakouth (1:58.22), Mandy Burton (2:01.76), and Laura Leix (2:02.58) swept the top three finishes in the 200 free, while Julie Danaher won the 50 free (25.11).

Three Warriors were separated by .48 seconds in the 100 breaststroke – Hogle (1:08.24), Amber Staudacher (1:08.30), and Jodi Scott (1:08.72).

Other notable performances included Melissa Duff in the 1000 free (10:49.42), Leix in the 100 fly (1:00.09), Julie Danaher in the 100 free (55.12), Katie Harrigan's 100 backstroke time of 1:00.25, and Ashley St. Andrew in the 500 free (5:10.55).

In the men's meet, Wayne State claimed first and second in the 200 medley relay, getting the dual meet off to a strong start.

The top three finishes in the 1000 free went to the Warriors thanks to strong swims from Guilherme Veiga (9:37.53), Matt Leix (10:21.59), and Argent Palumbo (10:39.14).

Justin Shields (1:49.40) and Sebastian Rzepa (1:49.50) went 1-2 in the 200 free, as did Tim Giblin (21.71) and Per Bergstrom (22.45) in the 50 free.

A.J. Erard (4:09.47) won the 400 IM and earned an NCAA "B" qualifier, followed by Jared Troyer (4:14.80) in second place.

Cauli Bedran (53.98) finished in second place in the 100 butterfly, while Alex Davidson (48.52) and Erard (50.85) took the top two spots in the 100 free to officially seal the victory.

Other notable swims included Leix in the 100 back (55.62), James Ekleberry in the 500 free (4:56.81), and Christer Tour in the 100 breaststroke (59.71).
