Meet of the Week: Ouachita Defeats Delta State, Men:168-72, Women:136-98

COLUMBUS, Ohio, November 19. The Ouachita TigerShark men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Delta State in their home pool on Saturday. The TigerSharks topped DSU's men 168-72 and the Lady TigerSharks defeated Delta State's women 136-98. Ouachita's women swam eight NCAA National cut times, while the men posted four qualifying times.

Women's 400-yard Medley Relay
The Ouachita women went 1-3 in the opening relay. The ‘A' team of Sarah Watson, Jenny Rocchio, Brittany Norton and Annalisa Lubinski swam to first place in a time of 3:59.24. The ‘B' team finished in 4:14.10. Sandwiched between the Lady TigerSharks was Delta State's ‘A' team with a time of 3:59.35.

Men's 400-Yard Medley Relay
OBU again took first and third in the relay, with the team of Radu Badalac, Valery Ladrat, John McLain and Ryan Rundle finishing in a time of 3:32.14, qualifying the men for the NCAA championships. The TigerShark's ‘B' team clocked the race in 3:35.69 for third place. Delta State touched in second with 3:35.69.

Women's 1,000-yard Freestyle
The Lady TigerSharks swept the Top 2 places in the distance event. Catherine Engibous swam the race in 10:45.82 to finish first. Teammate Brittany Norton stopped the clock two seconds later at 10:47.93 in second. Both TigerSharks secured their spot at the NCAA championships with their times. BSU swimmer Rebecca Glass rounded out the Top 3 in 10:53.68.

Men's 1,000-yard Freestyle
Vincent Condorelli (9:46.24) finished first to further extend Ouachita's lead. His time was the second NCAA qualification of the meet for the Statesmen. Delta State swimmers filled the next two spots with Alex Barillas taking second in 10:13.29. Ryan Crisco clocked a 10:16.18 for third place.

Women's 200-yard Freestyle
TigerShark Lauren Vickroy out touched Lady Statesmen Hanna Willis to win the event in 1:59.25. Willis finished two-tenths later in 1:59.42. Annalisa Lubinski touched in at 2:01.58 to secure third place for Ouchita.

Men's 200-yard Freestyle
The TigerSharks were responsible for the first two places in the event. Radu Badalac cruised to the win by five seconds. He finished the race in 1:42.57, a NCAA ‘B' cut. John Mark McLain was the next to finish with a time of 1:47.98. Yekta Alp was Delta State's top finisher at third place in a time of 1:50.60.

Women's 50-yard Freestyle
Sarah Watson and Trina May of OBU secured first and second place with the respective times of 24.70 and 25.33. Watson's time qualified as a NCAA ‘B' standard. DSU swimmer Jennifer Artichuk rounded out the podium in 25.66.

Men's 50-yard Freestyle
Ouachita swept the medal positions, going 1-2-3 in the sprint event. Ryan Rundle led the group, finishing in 21.95. Srdjan Markovic was the runner-up with 22.70 and Hal Eubanks swam to third in 22.92. Trohn Trabona recorded the fastest time for Delta State. He completed the race in 23.18 to secure fourth place.

Women's 200-yard Individual Medley
TigerShark freshman Rachel Watson finished ahead of the heat with a lead of six seconds in a time of 2:09.08, another ‘B' cut for the TigerSharks. Teammate Meredith Bishop was the next to finish with a time of 2:15.97 with Lady Statesmen posting a time of 2:16.13 for third.

Men's 200-yard Individual Medley
James Riddle (1:58.44) recorded yet another victory for Ouachita, outracing opponent Roman Sereda (1:58.48) by just four-one hundredths. The TigerSharks' Adam Szilagyi picked up a bronze medal in a time of 2:04.86.

Women's One-Meter
The Delta State women were responsible for all three finished in the diving event. Jessie Lockwood won with a score of 235.25 while Jennifer Gerasimos earned the silver with 215.85. Brittany Fitzgerald claimed third with 94.90 points.

Men's One-Meter
Cody Rood won the event, while TigerShark divers captured the next three positions. Rood, the only diver with a score over 200 won with 221.75. Matt Rose and Chris Hull finished second and third, respectively. Their scores were 188.50 and 174.00.

Women's 200-yard Butterfly
Delta State picked up its first swimming title when Amanda Guidry stopped the clock in 2:09.97. Brittany Norton took second in 2:10.66. Jennifer Artichuck recorded three more points for the Lady Statesmen when she finished next. Her time was 2:10.77. All of the women clocked NCAA ‘B' times.

Men's 200-yard Butterfly
Delta Statesmen Gurkan Eroksuz and Yekta Alp went 1-2 in the distance fly event, both finishing under two minutes. Their times were 1:59.70 and 1:59.96, respectively. Jason Purdy was OBU's highest-place finisher at third with 2:01.82.

Women's 100-yard Freestyle
Ouachita's Rachel Watson won the event when she stopped the clock three seconds ahead of the next competitor at 53.29. Her time was under the NCAA ‘B' qualifying standard. DSU swimmer Rebecca Cid swam to second place with a time of 56.37. Trina May won the bronze in 57.05.

Men's 100-yard Freestyle
TigerShark swimmers swept the first two places, with Srdjan Markovic winning in 48.56 and James Riddle finishing the race in 49.09. Roman Sereda of the Statesmen rounded out the podium with 49.62.

Women's 200-yard Backstroke
Ouachita swimmers Sarah Watson (2:04.37) and Jennifer Jorgenson (2:13.67) sandwiched DSU swimmer Hannah Willis (2:09.23) in the first and third positions. Watson secured her place at the 2007 NCAA Championships when she swam two seconds under the ‘A' cut.

Men's 200-yard Backstroke
OBU's Radu Badalac led the group with a clear lead, finishing 10 seconds ahead of opponents in a time of 1:51.11. Badalac's time was also three seconds under the NCAA ‘A' cut. Nicholas Francis of the Statesmen beat out TigerShark Stephen Blacklock, filling the second-place spot with a time of 2:01.52. Blacklock finished the race in 2:01.68.

Women's 500-yard Freestyle
In a close battle for first, Annalisa Lubinski beat out DSU swimmer Dawn Thompson for the title with 5:15.44. Thomspon was the runner-up with 5:15.94. Another Delta swimmers, Rebecca Glass, was responsible for the third-place position. Her time was 5:21.88.

Men's 500-yard Freestyle
Statesmen captured the front three finishes, with Vincent Condorelli winning with a lead of 13 seconds. He finished the mid-distance race in a NCAA ‘B' time of 4:46.36. Teammates Kyle Tilley and Jeff McKee grabbed the next two spots in the respective times of 4:59.42 and 5:00.94. Ryan Crisco recorded Delta State's fastest time of 5:02.72. He finished fourth.

Women's 3-Meter
Jessie Lockwood and Jennifer Gerasimos of Delta State took the Top 2 places on the boards. Lockwood beat her teammate out by one point when she won the event with a score of 224.60. Gerasimos dove to a score of 223.05.

Men's 3-meter
Cody Rood won the event for Delta State scoring more than 40 points ahead of the next finisher in a score of 239.00. The remaining places went to Ouachita divers, all of whom were freshmen. Matt Rose was the highest finisher with a score of 191.00. Teammate Chris Hull finished behind him with 189.90 points.

Women's 200-yard Breaststroke
Ratchel Watson secured the win when she stopped the clock with a five-second lead. She swam the race in 2:22.55 – less than .10 off of the NCAA ‘A' cut, but qualifying as ‘B' standard. DSU swimmers claimed the next two podium positions. Ashley Thompson swam a time of 2:27.34 for second, while Kasey Perkins finished in 2:28.67 for third.

Men's 200-yard Breaststroke
Ouachita ended the individual events sweeping the first four places in the longer breaststroke race. Valery Ladrat, Adam Szilagyi and Hal Eubanks formed the medal winners in the event. Ladrat swam the race in 2:08.87, while Szilagyi and Eubanks finished with the respective times of 2:13.94 and 2:15.39. Ladrat took one step closer to the NCAA's as her time qualifies as a ‘B' cut.

Women's 400-yard Freestyle Relay
OBU ended the meet with a win in the final relay. The ‘A' team posted a time of 3:45.11 for the win. The team's ‘B' relay won the silver, swimming the event in 3:50.04. Delta State's ‘A' team recorded its fastest time with 3:51.19 – a time that was the third fastest in the heat.

Men's 400-yard Freestyle Relay
Ouachita again garnered the Top 2 places in the men's final event. The Statesmen squad of Riddle, Markovic, McLain and Ryan won the title in 3:14.54. The relay's teammates were next to finish with a time of 3:19.86. Delta State took third in the event, posting a time of 3:20.70.
