Brown Women Win, Men Split

HANOVER, NH, November 19. THE Brown women's swimming & diving team (2-1, 2-1) rebounded from a tough loss to Harvard with a 162.5-137.5 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. The men picked up their first win of the season against Dartmouth, 194.48. However, the Bears fell to Navy in the same meet, 140-103, suffering their second loss of the year.

The Lady Bears won seven of 16 events on they day and also took second in eight other events.

They opened the day with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with the team of senior Emily Brush (Duxbury, MA), junior Aly Wyatt (Ypsilanti, MI), senior Meredith Cocco (Lafayette Hill, PA), and sophomore Sarah Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) clocking in at 1:51.79.

Sophomore Ainsley McFadgen (Glace Bay, NS) took second in the 1000 free as Brown's top finisher, earning a time of 10:30.86. The Bears won the next two events with senior Becky Kowalsky (Fort Myers, FL) winning the 200 free with a time of 1:57.44 and Brush winning the 100 back with a time of 1:00.72.

Wyatt was Brown's top finisher in the 100 breast, earning second with a time of 1:08.41. Senior Ashley Wallace (Chatham, NJ) won the 200 fly with a time of 2:08.50, while Goodman came in second in the 50 free with a time of 25.38.

In a break from swimming action, Brown earned a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1-meter dive with senior Amy Latinen (Fenton, MI) winning with a score of 250.64. Freshman Katie Olko (Harrison, NY) earned second with a score of 225.45, while senior Dana Meadow (Chicago, IL) grabbed third with a score of 218.84.

Kowalsky took second in the 100 free, earning a time of 54.92, and then Brown won the next two events with Brush touching the wall in 2:11.30 in the 200 back, and freshman Baily Langner (Martinez, CA) winning the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.40.

Brown took second in the next two as McFadgen swam a time of 5:08.60 in the 500 free and Wallace earned a time of 1:00.07 in the 100 fly.

Meadow and Latinen combined for a 1-2 sweep in the 3-meter dive, as Meadow scored a 258.15 and Latinen posted a 250.88.

Senior Lauren Harlow (Andover, MA) took third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:40.66 in the final individual event of the afternoon. The Bears closed the meet with the 400 free relay team of Goodman, freshman Susannah Ford (Cambridge, MA), Kowalsky, and Brush taking second with a time of 3:38.50.

On the men's side, Brown took first in five of the 13 events and finished in at least second in seven of the other eight events.

Freshman CJ Kambe (Unionville, CT) opened the meet with a second place finish in the 3-meter dive, scoring a 305.75. The Bears then won three of the next five events and posted two second place finishes to build a strong start.

The 400 medley relay team of junior Kevin Hug (Tampa, FL), senior Michael O'Mara (Reno, NV), sophomore Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC), and junior Brian Kelly (Weston, MA) earned first with a time of 3:29.76. Junior Peter Volosin (Roanoke, VA) took second in the 1000 free with a time of 9:42.27.

Sophomore Dan Ricketts (Baltimore, MD) won the 200 free with a time of 1:45.19, while Kelly won the 50 free with a time of 21.60. O'Mara then grabbed second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.49.

Kambe then took second on the 1-meter, scoring a 274.05, while sophomore William Kai Robinson (Vashon, WA) grabbed third with a score of 271.20 to round out the diving action.

Alexander took first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:55.11 and Kelly earned first in the 100 free with a time of 47.13 as Brown won the next two events. Hug was Brown's top finisher in the 200 back, taking second with a time of 1:54.65. Volosin took second in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:44.98, while O'Mara was Brown's top finisher in the 200 breast, earning third with a time of 2:12.58.

In the final event of the day, the Bears' 400 free relay team of Alexander, freshman Trent Huxley (Bellevue, WA), Hug, and Ricketts earned second with a time of 3:10.46.

The Bears continue action December 1-3 when they take part in the Princeton Invitational. The Brown divers will also be in action that weekend, competing in the Rutgers Diving Invitational, December 1-2.
