Big Ten Tabs Athletes of the Week

CHICAGO, Illinois, November 14. THE Big Ten Conference announced its swimmers and divers of the week on Tuesday. Northwestern's Mike Alexandrov and Wisconsin's Yi Ting Siow won the swimmer categories, while Ohio State's Kellen Harkness and Michigan's Elyse Lee garnered diver laurels.

Alexandrov won each of his three events on Friday as Northwestern defeated Wisconsin. The senior's best performance came in the 200-yard breast stroke when he beat the field by more than six seconds to post an NCAA "B" time of 1:59.99. Alexandrov also placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:33.50) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.99). This marks Alexandrov's fifth career weekly award and Northwestern's third consecutive Swimmer of the Week honor.

Harkness placed first in each of his four competitions last weekend as Ohio State recorded victories over Kenyon and Miami (Ohio). The senior posted his best score off the three-meter on Friday when he won the event by 42 points (407.70) after winning the one-meter by 30 points (345.37). Harkness completed the sweep on Saturday with scores of 364.50 off the one-meter and 377.25 off the three-meter. This is Harkness' first career honor and OSU's first of the season.

Siow won each of her three events on Friday as Wisconsin defeated Northwestern on the road. The sophomore posted an NCAA "A" time in the 200-yard breast stroke at 2:11.90 after recording a "B" time in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.12). Siow began the dual by helping her team to a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.02. This is Siow's third career weekly honor and her second of the season.

Lee was Michigan's top diver in all four of her events last weekend, notching three wins for three NCAA zone qualifying marks. Lee took first in the one- and three-meter events against No. 24 Princeton with respective scores of 302.62 and 306.00. Against Ohio State on Friday, Lee won the one-meter (305.55) and took fourth off the three-meter (265.05). This marks Lee's second career honor and the first weekly award for Michigan this season.
