South Carolina Sweeps Savannah College of Art and Design

COLUMBIA, South Carolina, November 11. THE Gamecock swimming squads delivered strong performances at their final home meet of the season, with both squads defeating the Savannah College of Art and Design. Colby Mack, Kendel Fiorentino, Lyndsey Havens, Stephanie Margalis, Aunya Nance, Meredith Ruka and Lindsey Tiberio were all recognized prior to the meet as part of Senior Day.

The Gamecock men defeated the SCAD Bees 131-65, and the Gamecock women won 131-57. Saturday's victories bring the men's season record to 3-3 and the women's season record to 3-4.

"We had a good time out there. Our focus was to send the seniors off on a good note in their final home meet," said head coach Don Gibb. "Overall it was a real good effort. Looking ahead to Ohio State in a couple weeks, I think we are in a real good place, and we are going to have a great end of semester meet up there."

Many of the Gamecock swimmers did not swim there typical races, but instead attempted some non-traditional events. Junior Dan White showed his versatility, bringing home victories in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. White did not compete in the 500 and 1000 free, in which he holds the team's season top times. Junior Carly Hensel also recorded two wins for the team, winning the 1000 free and the 100 fly. The Gamecocks also had their first opportunity of the season to race the 400 Individual Medley. Junior Leopoldo Andara and Sophomore Amanda Dunnigan won the men's and women's 400 IM, respectively.
