IRVING, Texas, November 8. THE conference office announced Big 12 Swimmers and Divers of the Week for meets of Oct. 23-Nov. 5. Bennett Clark (Missouri) was awarded Swimmer of the Week for the men while Mike Wong (Texas) was honored as the men's Diver of the Week. On the women's side, Julia Wilkinson (Texas A&M) won Swimmer of the Week and Mary Yarrison (Texas) Diver of the Week. The student-athletes were chosen by a vote of the league's head swimming and diving coaches.

Clark competed against Southern Illinois, Iowa, Drury and Louisville to claim three first-place finishes. Leading off in the 50-yard freestyle, he swam a time of 20.45 seconds. His other first place victories were 44.70 in the 100 freestyle and 44.41 as an anchor in the 400 relay where he also swam freestyle. The Kirkwood, Mo. native led the Tigers to a perfect weekend as they finished 4-0 in duals and won a five-team invitational by 79 points. Clark is undefeated in the 50 and 100 freestyle this season in seven races. He swam the three fastest races of the year in succession over the weekend, shaving more than a second off his previous season-best from three weeks ago against the Aggies.

Wong dove against two ranked teams, No. 4 California and No. 12 Indiana, where he placed first in the one-meter dive and second in the three-meter. His one-meter dives earned him 354.55 points and he received 334.85 for his 3 meter.

Wilkinson and the Aggie's beat two ranked opponents, No. 35 Oregon State and No. 11 Texas. She placed first in the 100 backstroke with her time of 54.96 and second in the 200 backstroke with 1:58.95. Leading off in the 400 freestyle relay, Wilkinson contributed her time of 50.32 to help the relay team receive first with their total time of 3:26.65. All three times were a NCAA consideration mark. Her time in the 400-medley relay and the 100 backstroke were the second fastest times in A&M history.
