Campbell County, Lander Valley Take Home Wyoming Girls State Crowns

GILLETTE, Wyoming, November 7. OVER the weekend of Oct. 27-28, Campbell County High and Lander Valley High picked up state high school titles in a meet held in Gillette, Wyo.

Campbell County recorded a win in the 4A division with 283 points to hold off Central's second-place total of 215. East (177), Green River (163) and Laramie (154) rounded out the top five, while Kelly Walsh (146), Sheridan (83), Evanston (52), Cody (50) and Riverton (34) went 6-10. Rock Springs (24) and Natrona (12) closed out the rest of team scoring.

Senior Jess Andrews of Campbell County earned 4A Athlete of the Year honors with a trio of titles at the state meet. First, she took down the 50 free field in 24.18, before capturing the 100 fly in 58.53. She then finished her treble of championships as the leadoff leg of the 400 free relay that touched in 3:37.69

The other trifecta came by way of sophomore Jenna Wisdorf of Central. First, she leadoff the winning 200-yard medley relay that stopped the clock in 1:51.31. She then won the 200 IM in 2:12.33, before grabbing the 100 back title in 58.74.

Notably, East's John Arciniega garnered 4A Coach of the Year honors.

In the 3A meet, Lander Valley (312) edged out Jackson (270) for the state title. Buffalo (167), Powell (162) and Kemmerer (138) came through as the rest of the top five, while Newcastle (77), Sublette (74), Rawlins (60), Greybull (47) and Lyman (39) comprised the 6-10 spots. Douglas (35) and Worland (14) finished team scoring in the division.

Seniors Erin Stotts of Lander and Erica Nygren of Buffalo shared Athlete of the Meet honors, while Stotts laid claim by herself to Athlete of the Year laurels.

Stotts finished the meet with three titles as she began competition as the second-leg of the winning 200 medley relay effort of 1:57.91. She then pocketed the 200 IM title in 2:20.38, before finishing her triple with a 1:09.56 in the 100 breast.

Nygren concluded the meet with a pair of titles with a 25.03 in the 50 free and a 1:00.85 in the 100 fly.

Lander Valley head coach Bruce Gresly earned the 3A Coach of the Year nod.
