Missouri State Rolls Delta State

CLEVELAND, Mississippi, November 3. THE Missouri State men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Delta State University Friday in Cleveland, Miss. The MSU men dominated their side of the meet, outscoring the Statesmen 197-92. The women edged Delta State with a close score of 158-140.

The Bears' teams started and ended the meet with relay wins. The MSU women swam to victory in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:58.72. The men echoed the win with a gold medal of their own in the 400 medley relay. Eduardo Pajares, Greg Temple, Paris Fitzgerald and Jesse Shalley combined for a time of 3:33.33.

The women ended the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay. Cara Belcher, Breanna Hollar, Kyla Meuer and Matana Wellman teamed together for a time of 1:40.87. The Bears' men's team swam to victory in the event, stopping the clock at 1:26.32.

The Missouri State women's team concluded the meet with eight individual wins. Freshmen Fran Moody and Wellman were double-event winners for the Bears. Moody was dominate in sprint freestyle events, taking home gold in the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 24.75 and 54.69, respectively. Wellman took care of the 200 and 500 freestyle, winning the events in 1:57.62 and 5:14.45, respectively.

Other individual event winners for the Missouri State women's team were Hilary Morrow in the 1,000 freestyle (10:42.14), Allison Zeller in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 59.75, Chelsea Leaver on the one-meter diving board (197.63) and Jessica Bennett rounded out the Bears' individual wins with a victory in the 400 IM (4:41.11).

On the men's side of the meet, the Bears came away with 11 individual wins. Pajares, Victor Serra and Seth Johnson all had two wins on the night. Pajares was unbeatable in backstroke events, winning the 100 and 200 backstroke in times of 53.84 and 1:55.73, respectively. Serra dominated butterfly events as he captured wins in the 100 and 200 fly, stopping the clock at 50.99 and 1:53.30, respectively. Seth Johnson showed his strength in the breaststroke events as he easily won the 100 breast and 200 breast in 58.67 and 2:04.04, respectively.

Ryan Bullock paced his way to a victory in the 1,000 freestyle, finishing the race in 9:49.08. Freshman Andrew Denefe sprinted to a win in the 50 free in a time of 22.22. Victor Riffel was the winner of the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:12.98.

MSU's Cole Kalkbrenner and Ryan Maeker split wins in the diving competitions. Kalkbrenner came out on top on the one-meter board, totaling 260.10 points and Maeker won gold on the three-meter board with a score of 248.18.
