North Carolina Hosts Richmond, Minnesota in Two-Day Dual

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina, November 3. THE North Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the first day of competition Friday evening in a double-dual meet with the University of Richmond and University of Minnesota. After the first day, the Tar Heel women lead both of their competitors, while the men trail Minnesota.

Carolina's women emerged victorious in three events and the men took first place in two. The Tar Heels bested their opponents in both 200-yard butterfly events. UNC junior Lindsey Marck continued to go unbeaten with a time of 2:04.18 and Yi-Khy Saw won the men's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.24.

Freshman Megan Steeves entered the Women's Top 10 All-Time in the 100-yard backstroke registering a time of 56.75. She took second to Minnesota's Roxane Akradi who topped the event with a time of 56.61.

Fellow Tar Heel freshman Alison Clemens also sneaks into the Top 10 All-Time, winning the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:04.10.

Minnesota sophomore Yuen Kobayashi prevailed in two individual races; the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle finishing with times of 1:49.89 and 9:57.26, respectively.

In diving, Tar Heel junior Lauren Karatanevski finished with the top score of 312.50 in the 3-meter competition. On the men's side, Carolina's Ryan Funderburk and Jon Fox finished first and second in the 1-meter diving, with scores of 371.95 and 362.05. In third place was Shaun Kennedy, racking up 327.45 for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

The meet will continue Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Koury Natatorium with the second day of competition.

TEAM SCORES: Women — UNC 96, Minnesota 90; Minnesota 136, Richmond 50; UNC 146, Richmond 40. Men — Minnesota 123, UNC 63.
