Team USA Men’s Water Polo Nearly Blanks Puerto Rico, 17-1, at ASUA Cup

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, November 3. USA left nothing to chance in their third game at the 2006 ASUA Cup, by defeating Puerto Rico, 17-1. Nine different players for the U.S. found the back of the net against Puerto Rico. Dreason Barry and Ryan Bailey led the charge for the U.S. with four goals a piece. Team USA scored early and often by scoring 17 unanswered points. Puerto Rico didn't score until the last few seconds of the fourth quarter.

"Our goal was to come out and work on our 6 on 5's and play strong defense,"
said USA Head Coach Ricardo Azevedo. "We really accomplished those goals, and played Puerto Rico with much respect."

The USA defense played extremely well the entire game, but the second and third quarters were most notable. They pressured Puerto Rico into turning the ball over on eight different occasions. Goalkeeper Genai Kerr had a solid game for USA, with 13 saves and 3 steals.
