USC Wins TYR Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, California, October 21. THE No. 7 USC men's and women's swim teams, both ranked No. 7, finished first in both team competitions after the final day of the 2006 TYR Pacific Invitational at Pacific's Chris Kledsjen pool in Stockton, Calif., on Saturday.

Sophomores Kristen Lahey and Amanda Weir each won twice for the women. Lahey won the 100y back (57.51) and the 100y fly (56.50) while Weir won the 500y free (4:47.60) and the 100y free (49.86). Weir's time in the 500y free, and teammate Kalyn Keller's second-place 4:48.54, were both NCAA consideration marks (Weir has already gone under her 100y time from Saturday).

Keller also won the 200y fly in 2:01.84, another NCAA consideration time and junior teammate Emily Goetsch's third-place finish of 2:02.19 was also an NCAA `B' cut.

Sophomore Rebecca Soni, the defending NCAA champion in the 200y breast, won the event in 2:19.71 in an easy swim for her.

On the men's side, senior Viktor Bodrogi won the 200y fly (1:48.75) while Larsen Jensen won the 500y free in 4:23.76, an NCAA consideration time for the senior who was an All-American in the event last year.

USC swept the men's and women's 200y free relay and the women also won the 800y free relay.

The USC men have recorded 463 points, while the USC women have recorded 508 points, both first-place totals.
