Colorado State Takes Early Bird Invite Title

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, October 21. THE Colorado State swimming and diving team hosted and won their first meet of the 2006-07 season. The Rams posted 1,339.50 total points followed by the University of Wyoming with 1018 points. Northern Colorado placed third with 615 points, followed by Air Force (358), Colorado (166), Colorado School of Mines (153), and Metro State College of Denver (83.50).

The Rams won both the 400 and 800-yard freestyle relays. In the 400 free relay, Colorado States Brette Winegarner, Jennifer Muniz, Alina Roberts, and Carmen Cianci finished with a 3:35:57. Celes Parks, Sarah Snyder, Tara Staley, and Chandra Engs finished in third for the Rams with a time of 3:38:20

In the 800 free relay, Muniz, Parks, Staley, and Cianci won with a finals time of 7:44:04. Engs, Valerie Maldonado, Kathleen McCleary, and Nora Kennedy placed fourth in the event with an 8:07:06.

Colorado State put on a stellar performance in individual competition as well. In the 400-yard individual medley, Muniz finished first in a time of 4:40:18. Engs (4:43:18) finished third and Annsley Lujan (4:45:30) crossed the finish line in fourth.

Cianci won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54:88 and Staley (1:55:70) finished third, just ahead of Parks who posted a 1:56.63 to place fourth

Senior Brette Winegarner led the way for the Rams as they dominated the 200-yard backstroke. Winegarner won with a time of 2:07:82 followed by Lyndsey Cox (2:07:98), who placed second. Colorado State's Amy Abrams (2:12:06), Molly Myers (2:13:22), and Stephanie Meyer (2:13:25) placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, for the Rams.

In the men's competition, Wyoming took home top honors with a final point total of 1,466. They were followed by Colorado (624.50), Colorado School of Mines (594), and Metro State College of Denver (444.50).
