Brown Adds Whitney as Assistant

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island, October 12. BROWN head swimming & diving coach Peter Brown has named Debra Whitney an assistant coach for the upcoming season. Whitney joins the Bears following a five-year stint as an age group coach for the Colorado Springs Swim Team.

In addition to serving as the coach with the Colorado Springs Swim Team, Whitney also served as a physiologist in the National Team Division at USA Swimming, located in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the past five years. With USA Swimming, she was involved in all phases of the National Team Division, which prepares athletes and coaches for the highest level of competition. In this role, Whitney traveled extensively while performing duties including trip preparation, lactate testing, land/water strength testing, video stroke analysis, nutrition education, and workout/season planning.

A 1996 graduate of Dartmouth with a BA in Economics, Whitney was a captain for the women's swimming team, earning Most Valuable Swimmer honors three years in a row. A varsity record holder in eight different events, Whitney began her coaching career as an assistant coach with the Big Green from 1996-1998. She received an MS in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology from the University of Colorado in 2001.
