Southern Illinois Sweeps Evansville, 157-75 Women/158-81 Men

EVANSVILLE, Indiana, September 30. SOUTHERN Illinois University swept the University of Evansville on both the women’s and the men’s side on Saturday. The women downed the Purple Aces 157-75, while the men claimed a 158-81 victory in Evansville, Ind.

Overall, the Salukis won all 26 events on the day. Freshman Therese Mattsson paced SIU on the women’s side with a pair of sprint free victories. She claimed the 50 free in 24.64, while winning the 100 free in 52.48.

For the men, a quartet of Salukis picked up a pair of individual wins. Junior Antonio Santoro won the 1,000 free in 9:36.76, before claiming the 100 fly in 51.96. Sophomore Vinicius Waked owned the 200 free in 1:40.83 and the 500 free in 4:37.78, while junior Gareth McGee pocketed crowns in the 200 IM (1:54.97) and the 100 back (51.80).

Meanwhile, sophomore Dennis Hedo rounded out the multiple winners for SIU with a 46.67 in the 100 free and a 58.38 in the 100 breast.
