FINA Announces Cash Pool for World Championships

PHOENIX, Arizona, September 22. ACCORDING to The Australian, FINA will award more than $2 million during its World Championships hosted by Melbroune in March of 2007.

Winners will bring home $12,000, while second place will net $7,000. Bronze medalist with pick up $5,000. Meanwhile, team sports will also have cash awards for successful outings.

In another gesture of good will, FINA will take care of the costs of transportation, meal and housing for 2,500 participants.

"The athletes chosen will be spread out across all the federations and will be based on their participation in past events," FINA executive director Cornel Marculescu said. "This is one of the ways FINA can accept some of the federations expenses so it can spend these funds on building infrastructure instead."
