Hosting Malaysia Scores First Medal (Gold) of FINA World Junior Diving Championships

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, August 26. THE Malaysians went home happy after the fourth day of competition at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships on Saturday as Elizabeth Jimie, a Malaysian, captured gold in the girls’ B one-meter event for the home country’s first medal of any variety of the meet.

Girls B One-Meter
Malaysia’s own Elizabeth Jimie provided some excitement with her country’s first medal of the meet by scoring a conquest in the girls’ B one-meter springboard event with a slim two-point victory over China’s Liu Herui.

Jimie went into finals trailing Russia’s Yana Zaytseva in carry-over points as Jimie owned 188.95 against Zaytseva’s 193.50. Zaytseva, however, dropped to fourth place in finals with 134.00 finals points for 327.50 overall.

Meanwhile, Jimie notched 149.25 points in finals for a gold-winning 338.20. Additionally, Herui wound up with silver with 188.45 carry-over points and 147.85 finals points for 336.20 overall.

Ukraine’s Viktoriya Khitrinska rounded out the podium with a bronze-winning 333.60 based on 187.20 carry-over points and 146.40 final points

Girls A Platform
China swept the top-two spots in the girls’ A platform as Lin Na cruised to victory with 488.25 overall points. She came out of prelims with a solid advantage with 265.35 carry-over points, then posted 222.90 points in finals.

Chen Ni took silver with 465.15 points based on 246.95 carry-over points and 218.20 finals points.

Canada’s Meaghen Benfeito closed out the top three with 423.90 points from 218.95 carry-over points and 204.95 finals points.

Results for the boys A&B three-meter synchronized event were unavailable at time of this report.

The competition will conclude on Sunday with the girls A&B three-meter synchronized, boys’ B three-meter and boys’ A platform events.
