Vollmer Completes Transfer to California

BERKELEY, California, August 24. AFTER one year at the University of Florida, Dana Vollmer has transferred to California, where she'll race for the Golden Bears under the direction of Teri McKeever. Vollmer wrapped up a strong summer at the Pan Pacific Championships, where she placed fifth in the 200 freestyle and helped the United States to gold in the 800 free relay.

According to an article in the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Vollmer's transfer occurred in May and she spent the summer training under Ron Forrest, her club coach with the Fort Worth Area Swim Team. A 2004 Olympian, Vollmer was plagued by nagging injuries during her lone season at Florida.

At the United States National Championships in Irvine, Calif. at the beginning of the month, Vollmer placed third in the 200 freestyle and finished fourth in the 100 butterfly. Vollmer will be a member of the United States squad that travels to next year's World Championships, slated for Melbourne in March.
