Keller Makes it Two in a Row for U.S. with 200 Free Win

VICTORIA, British Columbia, Aug. 17. KLETE Keller kept the gold train running for the U.S. with a comfortable victory in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships.

The Club Wolverine member cruised to the gold medal with a 1:46.20 to finish well ahead of silver-winning Tae Hwan Park of Korea, who clocked a 1:47.51. Meanwhile, China’s Lin Zhang hit the wall immediately behind with a bronze-winning 1:47.59.

While Keller fought off a sprinting Brent Hayden from Canada during the initial 100 meters, no one could keep up with the American after he clocked a 52.13 at the halfway mark en route to the 1:46.20 win.

At the end of the event, the U.S. held two golds, while Canada owned a pair of medals (1G, 1B) and Australia had two (1S, 1B) as well.
