NCAA Swimming: USC Sweeps UOP and UCI

Los Angeles, CA – The USC men’s and women’s swim teams, ranked No. 6 and 4, respectively, won all but one individual race as they easily defeated state rivals Pacific and UC Irvine in dual-meet action at the USC McDonald’s Swim Stadium on Saturday (Jan. 22).

The men (4-1) defeated Irvine, 212-49, and downed Pacific, 190-72. The women (4-1) beat Irvine, 210-47, and defeated Pacific, 187-75.

Double-winners on the men’s side included Bret Awbrey, Leonardo Costa, Nick Kaschik and Erik Vendt. Double-winners on the women’s side included Paige Francis, Michala Kwasny and Jennifer Parmenter.

Among the top swims were an NCAA consideration time from junior Corrie Murphy in the 500y free (4:49.72), Awbrey in the 200y free (1:38.97, his best in-season mark), both of Francis’ wins in the backstrokes (55.99 in the 100y and 1:59.69 in the 200y) and Kwasny’s win in the 100y breast (1:03.94).
