Alvarez, Altman-Kurosaki, Ipsen and Young Crowned Champ at Speedo Junior National Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, July 30 A pair of 2005 national champions was among the winners on Saturday at the 2006 Speedo Junior National Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Linus Altman-Kurosaki won the boys 16-18 three-meter title; Bianca Alvarez placed first in girls 16-18 one-meter; Kristian Ipsen took first in boys 14-15 one-meter, and Katrina Young won gold in girls 14-15 thre-meter.

After finishing second to Nick McCrory in three-meter and platform earlier this week, Ipsen came out on top on one-meter with 415.60 points for his fourth consecutive one-meter J.O. national title (he won three in 13 and under). McCrory scored 391.90 for the silver, and Sam Decker claimed the bronze with 366.55 points.

Altman-Kurosaki, last year’s 14-15 one-meter champion, scored 541.20 points for his three-meter gold. As the final competitor, he needed 55.6 points on his last dive for the win. He scored 73.5 points on his 5152B, giving Matt Cooper and Brandon Watson a tie for second with 523.20 points.

Alvarez won the 16-18 girls one-meter gold with 378.45 points, and Victoria Ishimatsu took the silver with 368.75 points. Abby Johnston, who won the gold on three-meter earlier in the week, finished with 355.85 points for bronze.

Young added to her 2006 silver (platform) and bronze (one-meter) with her gold-medal performance of 357.90 points on 3-meter. Thea Vock, the gold medalist on one-meter on Friday, took silver with 340.55 points to edge out Nikki Craft, who finished third with 340.40 points.

The Speedo Junior National Championships continue through Sunday, July 30. In all, 18 national titles will be awarded.
