Russia Hands U.S. First Loss of World League Super Final, 10-7

COSENZA, Italy, July 28. TEAM USA finally suffered a loss in the FINA World League Super Final in Cosenza, Italy, as the Russians downed the U.S., 10-7. The defeat marks the team’s first loss since the preliminary round game against Canada. The U.S. led in the first quarter, but fell behind in the second and could not come back.

"We were not able to match the intensity of the Russians in tonight's game,” Team USA head coach Guy Baker said. “It was good to have this opportunity to play with them prior to our first match of the World Cup, on August 8."

Meanwhile, Australia squeaked by the Netherlands, 12-11, while Italy knocked off Canada, 6-3.

The United States will still face Italy in the Super League championship match on July 30, while Canada will face Australia and Russia will battle the Netherlands for the right to play for third place.
