Women Dominate Houston Speedo Champions Series Sectional

HOUSTON, Texas, July 26. THE women’s races during finals proved to be incredible at the Houston Speedo Champions Series Sectional as four swimmers from the better half blazed to Olympic trial cuts during the initial day of competition on Wednesday.

A trio of competitor eclipsed the Olympic trial threshold in the 100-meter breaststroke as Stampede’s Annie Chandler claimed gold with a 1:11.24 just in front of Mustang Spindrift Beck’s second-place effort of 1:11.47. Additionally, Katy Aquatics’ Jennifer Lavers posted a bronze-winning 1:12.25.

Meanwhile, Connie Brown picked up a first-place 56.83 in the 100-meter freestyle to surpass the Olympic trial standard.

In other action, Alamo Area’s Shane Milu claimed the 100-meter free crown in a national-cut time of 52.03, while Francis Picasso won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:05.82.

Furthermore, Maddie Crum pocketed gold in the 200-meter backstroke in a national-cut effort of 2:18.36, while Kevin Braud walked away with gold in the 200 back by touching in a national-cut time of 2:07.04.

In the distance events, Beth McCullough picked up the first of three gold medals at the meet by posting an 8:57.86 to win the 800-meter freestyle, while Metro’s William Norton triumph on the men’s side of the event with an 8:42.36.

Action continues on Thursday with the 200-meter freestyle, 400-meter IM and the 800-meter freestyle relay.
