Kukors, Adrian Cap Speedo Western Sectionals with Wins

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, July 22. THE final night of the Speedo Western Sectionals, held Saturday at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center, featured victories from a pair of rising stars on the American scene. Ariana Kukors and Nathan Adrian each posted triumphs, with Kukors claiming her third win of the competition.

Already the first-place finisher in the 100 backstroke and 400 individual medley, Kukors won the 200 I.M. in 2:17.47. Kukors will be battling for a Team USA berth at the upcoming United States Nationals. As for Adrian, a California recruit, he won the 50 freestyle with a mark of 23.38, plenty faster than the 23.71 effort produced by Ryan Verlatti.

In other action, David Pursley prevailed in the men’s 1,500 freestyle in 16:03.80 and Ashley Daly won the women’s version of the event in 17:12.88. Meanwhile, Madeline Rovira won the women’s 50 free in 26.62 and Sam King took first in the men’s 200 I.M. in 2:09.47.
