INDUSTRY NEWS: Fabos Named Communications Director at USA Swimming

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, July 10. JAMIE Fabos has joined USA Swimming as its new Communications Director. Fabos will manage all communications aspects of USA Swimming’s Business Development Division. Specifically, she will oversee USA Swimming’s public relations efforts, media initiatives and publication materials. She will also supervise the organization’s Web site, www.usaswimming.org.

Fabos has spent the last two years as the primary media contact for the U.S. Women’s Ice Hockey Team at USA Hockey. She recently returned from the XX Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy, where she served as the primary spokesperson for the bronze-medal-winning U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team.

“Jamie has a great blend of understanding how to adapt to the changing landscape of sports promotion while keeping a focus on the importance of excellent service to athletes, media, coaches, fans and members through our communications efforts, “ said Matt Farrell, Managing Director of USA Swimming’s Business Development Division. “Her history of success in Olympic sports and the NHL give her the experience and perspective to lead our publicity efforts, Web site and our magazine to new levels.”

Before joining USA Hockey, Fabos spent four years handling media and public relations activities with the NHL’s New York Islanders. She served as the Islanders’ public relations representative through two NHL trade deadlines, two Stanley Cup Playoffs and a pair of NHL drafts, and was a regular contributor to Islanders’ Illustrated and newyorkislanders.com.

Fabos’ career in hockey was set in motion by her tenure as PR director for the ECHL’s Miami Matadors from 1998-99. From there, she served in the ECHL’s league office as assistant director of communications for the then 30-team league. While working at the national league office, she spearheaded the complete redesign of ECHL.com. Her new design and content strategy efforts resulted in a 400 percent growth in site traffic and tripled e-commerce sales.

Fabos began her career in sports as a web producer at CBS SportsLine.com. There, she served as web producer for the Kids’ Zone and Sports Century sites and administrated the official sites of the Florida Marlins and San Francisco 49ers. Fabos earned a double major in public relations and theater from the University of Miami in 1998.
