Beard Speaks to IU Swim Camp

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., June 22 Seven-time Olympic medalist Amanda Beard took time out of her busy training schedule to speak with campers at the Indiana Swim Camp at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center in Bloomington, Ind., on Monday.

“We were very excited to have Amanda Beard visit IU,” Indiana head coach Ray Looze said. “We are happy to provide our campers with the opportunity to hear her Olympic story.”

During the question and answer session, Beard responded to various questions from the campers, who ranged from 8-18 in age. While also speaking about her time in the Olympics and her goals for Beijing, Beard also talked about her favorite movie (The Notebook). Additionally, Beard let swimmers see one of her gold medals.

"When I look at these 14-year-olds it's hard to believe,” Beard said. “When I was 14, I didn't feel young, I thought I was mature.”

Another Olympian, Lars Jorgensen, is in Bloomington as well. After coaching the first session of the IU summer camp series, Jorgensen returned to help at the third session this week.
