Australia’s Katsoulis Out of World Short Course Championships

MELBOURNE, Australia, March 28. SARAH Katsoulis, who was scheduled to contest the breaststroke events, will miss the World Short Course Championships in Shanghai, China after undergoing an emergency appendectomy. At the last World Short Course Champs, held in 2004 in Indianapolis, Katsoulis claimed bronze in the 200 breaststroke. This year’s competition will run from April 5-9.

As a replacement for Katsoulis, Australia has tabbed 16-year-old Kyle Palmer for the team. Palmer will contest the 200 butterfly, 400 individual medley and 800 freestyle. Meanwhile, Jade Edmistone will add the 200 breast to her program. Edmistone is the world-record holder for the 50-meter distance. Palmer and Bronte Barratt are the youngest members of the Telstra Dolphins squad.
