Stanford Wins Pac-10 Championship

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. March 4. THE Stanford Cardinal dominated nearly every event on the final day of the Pac-10 Championship to claim the team title again this year. Shaun Phillips destroyed the field in the mile touching in a comfortable 14:43.89, nearly twenty seconds ahead of second place finisher, Cal's Daniel Lysaught. Then it was Hongzhe Sun's turn to shine in the 200 backstroke. Sun finished in 1:41.17 beating out Arizona's Nick Thoman (1:42.71).

Ben Wildman-Tobriner continued his reign over the sprint events, posting a swift 42.79. Arizona's Simon Burnett finished second (43.00). The Cardinal built their lead with the 200 breaststroke as Paul Kornfield (1:55.30) beat out Cal's Henrique Barbosa (1:55.93).

The Trojans from USC stepped up in the 200 butterfly to finish 1-2 in the event. Viktor Bodrogi won with a 1:42.35, while teammate Sam Masson touched second at 1:45.10. USC repeated the 1-2 finish in platform diving with Michael Hilde and Kenny Jenkins respectively.

California beat out Arizona for the top relay finish of the evening, in the 400 freestyle relay. Cal's time of 2:51.27 touched out Arizona's 2:51.73.
