Gettysburg Men and Women Fall to Franklin & Marshall; F&M Wins CC Dual Meet Title

GETTYSBURG, Pa.February 4. THE Gettysburg men’s and women’s swimming teams each fell to Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) swimming action on Saturday.

Both Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall entered today’s meet undefeated in CC action this year and the winner would take home the CC dual meet title. Franklin & Marshall remained undefeated and claimed the CC dual meet title as the men’s team (6-1, 6-0 CC) beat Gettysburg (5-3, 5-1 CC) 107-98 and their women’s team (8-0, 7-0 CC) narrowly defeated the Bullets (7-2, 6-1) 103-102.

On the women’s side, the Diplomats opened the meet with wins in the 400 Medley Relay, the 1000 Free, and the 200 Free.

Gettysburg countered with Demery Close (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) winning the 50 Free and Roxy Hernandez (Royersford, PA/Germantown Academy) claiming victory in the 200 IM.

Emily Bohdan (Darien, CT/Darien) would win the 100 Free in 55.83, three tenths of a second in front of teammate Julie Lilly (Bowie, MD/Bowie).

Franklin & Marshall would fight back and win three consecutive events, the 200 Back, the 500 Free, and the 200 Breast.

The Bullets were not able to overcome the Diplomats lead even though Gettysburg won the meet’s final event, the 400 Free Relay. The winning team of Caitlin Reilly (Farmington, CT/Farmington), Lilly, Emilie Youmans (Elizabeth, ME/Cheverus), and Alison Pettine (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) touched the mark in 3:40.80.

In the men’s meet, Franklin & Marshall opened the meet with victories in the 400 Medley Relay and they 1000 Free.

The Bullets’ Michael Hughes (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) would next win the 200 Free in 1:48.36.

The Diplomats would win three more events before Gettysburg put together a string of victories.

Brian Pernice (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) won the 100 Free, Hughes won his second event of the day, the 200 Back, and the team of Pernice, Grant McDowell (Jenkintown, PA/Abington), Derek Claiborne (Darien, CT/Darien), and Anton White (Philadelphia, PA/Bodine) won the 400 Free Relay.

However, Franklin & Marshall would hold on for the win, 107-98.

The Bullet men and women return to action Feb. 17-19 at the Centennial Conference Championships.
