Swimmers McLarty, Zemaitis Are USA Triathlon’s 2005 Rookies of the Year

PHOENIX, February 7. SWIMMERS Sara McLarty and Joe Zemaitis were named USA Triathlon’s 2005 Triathlon Rookies of the Year last week.

McLarty’s season was highlighted by a ninth place finish (top American) at the U-23 World Championships and she was the ninth place finisher overall at the U.S. Pro Championships. Zemaitis’ first season as a pro included a fifth place finish at the Ironman Langkawi Malaysia and an eighth place finish at the US Pro Long Course National Championship.

A 2004 graduate of the University of Florida, where she won All-American accolades all four years, McLarty won both the women’s 5K and 10K at the 2005 US National Open Water Championships last year and represented the USA at the World Championships in Montreal.

Zemaitis, who swam for the Solotar Swim Club and the Phoenix Swim Club, was an NCAA Div. III standout at Lake Forest (IL) College.
