Uchiyama Resigns as U.S. National Team Director

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, January 28. USA Swimming accepted the resignation of National Team Director Everett Uchiyama on Friday. Uchiyama’s resignation is effective immediately.

Uchiyama began his career at USA Swimming in 1999 as the National Team Coordinator. He held the position of National Team Director on an interim basis from December 2002 until April 2004 when the interim title was removed.

John Walker, USA Swimming National Team High Performance Director, will serve in the role on an interim basis until a successor is named. Walker joined the USA Swimming staff in January of 2000 and has had an active role in working with National Team athletes and coaches during this period.

“The next step is to review the job description and confer with the sport’s leaders and others in the swimming community to gain input to determine the most effective search process,” said Chuck Wielgus, USA Swimming Executive Director. “I will then establish a course of action and timetable for filling the vacant position.”
